Horror Monsters zombie zombies rural
"This here, this is the sound of the Deep Dark," my Daddy said, the summer I turned 7. He was teaching me how to pick, showing me where to squeeze on the banjo's neck with my pink, tender fingers. "An old, powerful sound. It's a piece of them trees. Wherever you play it, it'll conjure 'em up." I never did know what he meant by that. Until the mining accident took him.

We all know zombies bite. Maybe the way to fight them is to bite back. When I was invited to submit to CHICKS AND BALANCES, the final CHICKS IN CHAINMAIL anthology, I realized I had no ideas for a story. Nothing. Bupkis. So I combed back through my files and thought it might be nice to find out what Dagmar and Ramdane have been up to. The deadline was only a few days away, so I wrote in a great hurry. Later I discovered the publisher had chosen "Bite Me" for the cover!

Horror zombies Jay Lake memorial anthology ski bum zombies mount hood intelligently redesigned
Previously published in JAY LAKE: INTELLIGENTLY REDESIGNED (2008). A limited edition anthology edited by J.K. Richard, written by friends of Jay Lake for Jay after his first bout with colon cancer. One of my very few zombie stories, written during my hardcore ski bum days while teaching special education classes at Welches Middle School. Several of my students advised me on the appropriate jargon for the era. Ah, Jay. You left us far too soon. Thanks for the inspiration.

Fantasy Horror Historical Bible references zombies
This story is what happened when I read the Bible. Be afraid. Also, Endor refers to the Old Testament character the Sorceress of Endor, not the Star wars moon with the unbearable little furry creatures.
